Understanding and Interpreting the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire

Our one-day course will show you to use Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, an invaluable tool for assessing children's social, emotional and mental health needs.

 

It will also explain how the SDQ can help you respond to children’s needs in the right way, using suggested strategies, resources and interventions as part of 1:1, group and whole school approaches.

 

As well as taking a practical look at the SDQ, the training will also explore some of the key concepts and principles underpinning its approach.

 

Each learner will receive:

  • A Bespoke SEMH Assessments Handbook Developed by Mental Health Hub
  • A Digital Course Workbook
  • Access to digital CPD on a 'Whole School Introduction to SDQs'

 

What will I learn?

  • How to identify, assess, interpret and plan support for children and young people using SDQ
  • How to use CORDS to complete an online SEMH assessments.
  • The Principles of Trauma Informed Practice and a Relational Approach and how these link to the assessment tool
  • The impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences on children's development and wellbeing
  • Roles and responsibilities that schools have over mental health and wellbeing
  • Using outcome measures to gain deeper insight as part of a 1:1, group and whole school approach)
  • Ways to implement the SDQ in a school environment as part of a whole school approach
  • Interpreting and understanding the results and scores of the SDQ
  • Personalising support, interventions, strategies and action plans

 

You will also gain an insight into how the CORDS platform (by Mental Health Hub) can transform and elevate your whole school approach to mental health and ensure you meet and follow best practices and guidance.
